43 New Rides, 24 Sold: Affordable Efficiency Rules (Oct 17, 2026)

MCL Weekly Update

167 live listings (up from 148) — 24 sold, 43 new this week

Efficiency ruled the lot this week. With gas still at record autumn highs — $4.33 a gallon nationally and $5.63 in Hawaii — cheap, fuel-sipping cars moved fastest: two $5,500 Altimas and an HR-V listed and sold within days, and every vehicle in this week's Top 20 is a fresh arrival, most of them under $10,000.

The wider market is telling the same story. Wholesale prices fell for a third straight month in September, and the only segments holding or gaining value are the efficient ones — cars rated above 40 mpg are up nearly 10% this year while the thirstiest trucks and SUVs keep sliding. That makes this a genuine buyer's market for military families who shop smart: sellers are pricing to move, and the clean, affordable commuters that used to be scarce are showing up on base lots again.

Four of last week's featured vehicles sold, including the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid and the 2022 Lexus UX, and Hawaii lots did most of the week's business again. This week's list still reaches the mainland, though — a pair of Texas picks and the week's only camper round out a Top 20 built for PCS moves, first cars, and tight budgets.
