Recycle your Car or Go Green with a Hybrid to Benefit the Environment and You

For the past several years, more and more concern has been developing regarding the health of mother earth.  We frequently hear about the catastrophic consequences of the toxic byproducts of human civilization that are paining the terrestrial realm in which we live.  Environmental awareness is placing more recycle bins in homes, increasing the use of reusable grocery bags and perpetuating the rapid expansion of conservation efforts world-wide.  A few years back, I remember scratching my head as a Honda hybrid purred along the freeway.  What a rare site to see!  Nowadays, hybrid cars can commonly be seen during your daily commute to work.  Some cities even provide incentives for the use of hybrids.  In Washington D.C., one can drive a hybrid right along the HOV (High occupancy vehicle lanes) without having to carry the required number of passengers.  For those at Fort Belvoir army base or Quantico marine base, that privilege can be especially appreciated when having to contend with the heinous traffic of the D.C. area.  Now that’s great and all, but what if I can’t afford a hybrid car?  How can I contribute to the conservation of the environment with my car?  At one point or another, we have most likely owned one of those dreaded cars that just can’t be saved.  With flakes of rust falling from the wheel wells and a muffler with more holes than a slice of swiss, we can’t even entertain the notion of selling this curse to someone else.  Even though you feel like you’re blowing holes through the o-zone layer every time you drive to the grocery store, your junk car can still “go green”.  Many have not realized that you can recycle your car.  If you should choose to recycle your car, cash incentives are frequently offered or even the opportunity to contribute to a charity.  If you want to know the details of the many ways that a car is recycled, click here.  As I mentioned in the previous blog, Hope for The Warriors is a great organization that provides help to wounded military members and their families. Beside financial donation to the organization, you can also donate your old car whether if it’s running or not.  Through Military Car Lot, you could even find an environmentally friendly car of your own at a base near you!
