Getting Your Car Ready for Fall: The Time is Now!

Preparing your car for the upcoming seasonal changes is always important.  Typically the most emphasis is put on preparing your car for winter and summer.  However, getting your car set for spring and fall are just as important.  Like it or not, fall is here and it’s time to prepare your car accordingly.

Depending on where you live, you may need to be prepared for dropping temperatures.  Having enjoyed the summer season with your car air conditioning, your car heater has likely been far from your mind.  Don’t let the sudden chills of late September and October be your first indication of the heater working or not.  By taking a few moments to inspect your heater, you’ll immediately know if your car heater needs some work.

Just like with any other time of the year, your car’s overall well-being needs to be assessed.  Right before a seasonal change is a prime opportunity for checking out your car.  It’s best to make sure that your car is prepared before you start driving it in different temperatures.  If you’re not savvy with car maintenance, seek the wisdom of certified mechanics.  If you don’t yet have a regular mechanic, get one.  Do some research, ask friends, family or neighbors where they take their cars.

Whether you’re maintaining your own car or trusting it to the mechanics, these are some of the things that need to be inspected:  fluids, belts, hoses, light bulbs, battery, tires, brakes and exhaust system.  The more that you can have inspected, the better!  Here is an article that beautifully lays out what you should have done.  For more information on the subject, Peter D. duPre also offers a refreshing article with plenty of further details.
